Oxford itself remains ‘quaintly’ quiet (with the exception, as you might expect, of the new Westgate Centre – glitzy shopping mall. The ageless Covered Market is open).
Although Oxford University colleges and main buildings remain closed it is a delight to be able to walk around places, like the Radcliffe Square, without the latter-day crowds.
The world renowned Oxford University Ashmolean Museum will open from the 10th August (pre-booking will be necessary).
Oxford Castle and prison – is open, bit gruesome but very interesting.
Christ Church Meadows is open as is University Parks, both lovely areas to wander through.
The Botanical Gardens are open.
Boating (private hire) and punting (!) on the Thames is open at various locations.
Generally, at various times during the day, churches (including Christ Church Cathedral) are open for private prayer.
Tours are operating with reduced numbers during the day, but not the Ghost tour!
The ‘Hop on, Hop off’ open top buses are running.
